On some lights you have to rotate the cover before it will drop down. On some lights the cover is attached to the plastic or metal frame around it which in turn is held in place by spring clips. You would just have to grab the frame on both sides and pull on it gently but firmly. The frame will drop down about 2-3 inches and then stop. You can remove the frame completely by sliding your fingers between the ceiling and the frame and pinching the spring clip together to release the clip from the metal box up in the ceiling. On some lights the cover alone is held up with spring clips. On most builder quality exhaust fan/light combos, the cover is is plastic and snaps in place. You would need to pinch the sides in slightly to release it from the plastic frame. On some lights there is a knob or cap at the bottom of the cover that needs to be unscrewed to release the cover. Turn the knob counter clock wise to loosen, clock wise to tighten. How do you change a bulb in a cieling fixture with exhaust fan that the glass will not release?some of them are set up so that the whole plastic fixture pulls away from the ceiling.
