I used to have one, and if I remember right, there's a couple of clips at the back of the light cluster (you might need to pull away the carpet in the boot) which allows the entire unit to be taken out from the outside of the car. Then it's just a matter of undoing the bayonet-fit bulb and replacing it with another one. It's a standard bulb, any motor factor or Halfords will stock them for 2-ish each, it's worth buying a couple, because they blow all the time on Clios. When you're done, the light unit is supposed to just clip back into place, but it can be a fiddle to get it to line up properly, hence the number of old Clios you'll see with slightly squinty rear lights!

Even Walmart auto dept will change out a headlight for you for less than $10 labor. It's not too complicated to change a headlamp. It's just kinda hard. I know it sounds like it's same thing, but this is why. Usually the bulb is held into place by a mount with a ring that turns to lock it in. It's just a big FREAKIN' PAIN to try and turn that plastic ring, with trying to fit your hands and fingers into the small space. If it's the driver side headlamp, sometimes you've got to take out battery so you've got room to work. It's not complicated, just a hassle.

Once you've got the ring turned, you'll see how it unlocks it. It doesn't unscrew like a pop bottle cap. Then you pull out the bulb. Think you can also remove the wiring from the part first before trying to move the locking ring which helps to not damage the wires. Once out, you merely replace the bulb like changing batteries, and then reassemble the whole thing again. It's much easier to pay the $20 to let someone else do it.



IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!! If you do it yourself, you really really REALLY have to make sure that the new bulb has all your fingerprints off it. In fact, don't ever touch the bulb itself. This is why.

Bulbs are halogen which burn extremely hot, that's why they throw a brighter light down the road. But they are sooooo hot, that they can burn extremely easily. Your fingers have grease on them, part of your body's stuff. Not talking about engine or motor grease, this is a natural oil on your fingers and hands. If this gets onto the bulb, the oils from your hands will actually begin to cook, or fry, just like french fries in cookng grease, and that will cause the bulb to burn out or even maybe explode. I actually cant change the light bulb?

my stupid flatmate blew the light bulb recently and noones changed it.

i tried to tonight, but i tried one with a pointed end that u ccan screw in, and it didnt fit.

i can see two prongs inside the bit the hangs down, so i tried one with two flat bits on the end, and it lit up but i cant screw it in as it has no twisty bits so allow me to screw it in.

Bayonet light bulbs are the ones with the flat ends and the bits that stick out at the sides - the light fitting will have a slot that the bits on the side fit into, you push the light bulb in and twist it (clockwise I think) until it fits in.

Lesson One... MAKE SURE THE LIGHT IS OFF AT THE LIGHT SWITCH. This is impoortant because if its not then you go sticking your fingers where theyre not spoz to be, you could be in trouble.

Lesson 2; Have a good look at the place on the light fitting where you are inserting the lightbulb. There should be metal ring all the way around where the light bulb fits into. In that metal ring you will see two bits cut out of it.

3; On the bulb itself, turn it so you can see the metal face on it, rather than the glass end. You should see two oval shaped metal things. On the outer rim there are two little pieces that stick out from the sides of this. (bit like metal matchsticks, only not as fat) only very small length too

4; Those 'metal matchsticks' are then LINED UP with the two openings in the light fitting, and you push bulb up into the light fitting, pushing these two bits together. Push them together gently (dont push hard incase you shatter the lightbulb)

and when you have pushed it as far as you can do so, turn it gently til it stops. That will either be one way or the other...my lamps appear to be clockwise turn, and the central ceiling fixtures are anti-clockwise, so its trial and error, But at least you have the basic essentials in line.



Lesson five:

When it does blow it will just go black. No harm will be done to the TV. You'll just have a picturless TV until you get a new lamp. If it is under warranty just call up whoever and say it blew and they will send you a new lamp. Keep it as a backup.

Look for the wire that is attached to the lamp and then disconnect it, and then twist out the bulb. Go to the auto parts store and have them give you the correct one to change it out.

If that is the case then you either have the wrong bulb or there is an issue with the transformer. Transformer could be defectve or the fuse on the transformer has blown.
